Crime drama series Ozark is set to return for its second season on Netflix later in the summer.
The streaming service released the official teaser trailer along with some promotional pictures on Thursday. The premiere date of the new season is August 31st.
“People make choices. Choices have consequences.” says main character Marty Byrde (portrayed by Jason Bateman) to his wife Wendy (Laura Linney).
The financial adviser is making a comeback to continue facing the consequences of the botched money-laundering scheme which led to him and his family relocating from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks at the beginning of last season, where they got entangled with even more criminal dealings.
As reported by IndieWire, the new season will pick the story up right where it was left off, with the Byrde family sticking together after almost separating for good.
Other than Bateman and Linney, The Independent confirms actresses Sofia Hublitz and Julia Garner, are returning to reprise their respective roles as the couple’s daughter Charlotte and 19-year-old criminal Ruth Langmore.
The cast is also made of actors Skylar Gaertner who plays Marty and Wendy’s son Jonah, Jordana Spiro interpreting Byrde’s business partner and local hotel owner Rachel Garrison, Jason Butler Harner in the role of FBI Agent Roy Petty, and Peter Mullan and Lisa Emery as Jacob and Darlene Snell, respectively a local crime lord and his wife.
In addition, actress Janet McTeer is making her debut in the series as a guest star, playing ruthless crime syndicate attorney Helen Pierce who will become a new source of trouble for the Byrde family.
The season promises to be as dark and full of plot twists as the previous one, whose compelling story captured the attention of many viewers. As stated by Forbes, the success of the series produced by Media Rights Capital and Aggregate Films is proved by its figuring among the most viewed Netflix Originals of 2017.
