Netflix has got bad news for the fans of their Marvel superhero series. They have already announced the cancellation of two of their superhero series, that is, ‘The Punisher‘ and ‘Jessica Jones‘, that further makes it clear for us to understand that the Disney-owned Marvel series is very close to coming to an abrupt end.
Such an unexpected decision made by Netflix has made it difficult for the fans to get a clear picture of rivalry taking place between Netflix and Disney.
Netflix had started the Marvel series in 2015 and had gained much popularity as well as a strong fanbase with its very first season of Daredevil (released on April 2015) followed by the first season of Jessica Jones (released on November 2015). The fan following for this superhero series hasn’t stopped increasing ever since.
Netflix has announced, “Marvel‘s ‘The Punisher’ will not return for a third season on Netflix. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and an exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come. In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jones.’ We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others. We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning.”
The announcement of Netflix has made clear that Jessica Jones and The Punisher will come to an end as soon as the shooting gets finished and the show goes on air.
But along with the bad news, comes good news too. The good news for the fans of Marvel’s superhero series is that Netflix has launched a new superhero series “The Umbrella Academy”, last Friday.
Disney has decided to start an online media streaming service of its own, named Disney+, in order to give a tough competition to Netflix and other such platforms.
As per the rumours, one of the basic reasons for Netflix calling an end to its partnership with Disney is the decision made by Disney to start its own service. Neither of them had been relevant about their sudden decision yet.
